In many cases belongings and houses get destroyed when excessive heat breaks the windows of a building. Once windows are broken, the fire can enter your home, causing curtains, furniture and other items to catch alight, spreading quickly across your entire property. To keep fire out of your home and to protect life, you need to protect windows and doors with fire rated shutters; when fire has no entry point into the building, the risk of the property burning down is significantly reduced.

Our bushfire compliant shutters work by reducing heat by up to 90%, decreasing the likelihood of windows exploding. Our bushfire roller shutters do not contain combustible materials and can also keep debris from being blown into your home.

When buying bushfire rated roller shutters, it is important to know that there are six potential bushfire attack levels (BAL) that are used to rate the fire danger of buildings. These levels range from low-risk (LOW) to very high-risk (FZ or Flame Zone):

The range we have includes both manual and electric options for you to choose between. The electric models have a special manual override motor, which allows the shutter to be operated manually in case of a power failure which can occur easily during a bushfire – and is required for compliance. Also operable via wifi control from your smartphone (additional charges apply)

Michael and Brad are fantastic. We are in an BAL FZ rating area and the process from thinking about the DA and then realising we needed shutters to having everything completed took about 2 years. Our shutters where installed around 6 months ago and I'm very happy with them. Our house is on sloping ground and faces West so we use the shutters on a hot day to stop the sun coming through the single glazed windows and they work really well at keeping the temperature of the house lower. Through the whole 2 years process Michael and Brad where excellent. They allowed me to go to the factory and look at the product before I choose to go with them which was great. I also can't fault the process post quoting all the way to completed installation.

My builder had selected a FABRIC ‘curtain’ to meet my BAL-FZ requirements and on doing my own research realised this fabric was designed to control smoke inside commercial buildings, and the CURTAIN was a single use product, with ZERO radiant heat protection at a significantly higher cost of the high quality Heroel SHUTTERS that I now use daily! The FABRIC CURTAIN was not UV stabilised so could not even be closed for shade or privacy without ruining the fabric and voiding warranty! My advice is to do your own research, don’t accept a product just because the builder/architect/certifier says it’s ok!!! I had the fire roller shutters installed as in high bushfire zone. I never expected to use them at all. A few years on and we use them every day, year round. Summer they go down in the morning and up at night. Winter it’s the other way around. Spring & autumn they go half way down. Wonderful . And great service as well. We used Bushfire Roller Shutters for our FZ rated re-build in Pymble in 2022/3.I did a fair amount of homework before hand on the window options as this was the single biggest project cost. We found that the most cost-effective option was to use Bal 40 windows with FZ rated Bushfire shutters.I looked at the fabric option, but it didn't appeal to me as it didn't seem to offer the incremental functionality, that roller shutters do. They also turned out to be more expensive.I was however concerned about the visual impact that bushfire shutters would have on the aesthetics of the house. I looked at two other shutter providers, before settling on Bushfire Roller Shutters, who are based in Gosford. The one supplier offered a solution that looked to be heavier than the Heroal solution which is sourced from Germany. The second also used the Heroal solution but I found their follow up to calls and emails to be unsatisfactory and never managed to get a quote out of them. I may have been unlucky with them but on such a large cost item you really need to have a high level of confidence when you choose a supplier.When I got hold of Michael, I found his approach was totally different to the other suppliers. He wasn't just going through the motions of providing a quote. He is passionate about their product and knowledgeable about the FZ space in general- FZ requirements are highly technical and costly for a homebuilder, so you need to be confident that you are opting for the right product and that it will meet the compliance requirements.Michael was forthcoming with lots of relevant information during our initial conversations. He assured me that their product was market leading in terms of aesthetics. He also mentioned that they were launching a powder coated option.Michael also said that most of his customers started out as "roller shutter sceptics" but later, when they moved in, they found that the roller shutters were very functional and convenient.A week or so later Michael phoned to notify me that there would be a significant price increase from Jan 2023 and offered to lock in a price for us against the payment of a modest deposit.This turned out to be a great deal for us as our build took double the time that our previous build had. 2022 was extremely wet and suppliers had a lot of leverage when it came to price. The Heroal solution is imported from Germany, so we were also fortunate to have been able to lock in our pricing at the stronger AU FX rates that prevailed in late 2021, not long before the Ukraine war altered economic conditions for the whole world.Our shutters were eventually installed in mid-2023. At that stage I also got to know Brad and quite a few of their team members as we had 23 shutters to install. When issues arose, they were addressed promptly and the whole team were easy to deal with.After moving in, we found that rather than being a grudge spend, the shutters were really convenient. We saved a whole lot of our window coverings budget. They have significant thermal benefits in winter and those very hot days. They also provide shading at the press of a button and great security when you are travelling. Some insurers also offer a security discount for roller shutters.The shutter App is really great as it allows you to close and open the whole house and also provides remote functionality.In terms of after sales support, we have had a few minor issues arise, but they have all been resolved in a timeous manner.

5 years ago we built our house with a flame zone BAL rating. I couldn't be happier with the shutters that were installed by Bushfire Roller Shutters. We have 16 stainless steel, electrically operated shutters over a variety of windows, some small and some very large including over two 2.7m high 3.6m doors. We have recently had FZ shutters installed as a DA requirement for a two storey house in Hornsby Heights.
